Liberal Democrats in the New Forest are hoping for a major boost at the start of 2010, which will be General Election year, with high hopes of gaining control of another council.
Villagers in Marchwood will be going to the polls on Thursday, January 7th to elect a Councillor.
The vacancy arises because of the resignation of an independent member.
The Liberal Democrat candidate is Jenny McKeown, a local resident who has been vigorously campaigning for more restrictions on HGV traffic travelling through the village centre.
If successful, it will mean that Marchwood Parish Council will be controlled by the Liberal Democrats.
Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for New Forest East, Terry Scriven has been out with Jenny and her team in recent weeks, knocking on doors of Marchwood residents and helping with case-work issues.
He says “Jenny would make an excellent Councillor. She has a great deal to offer, with specialist knowledge of environmental issues and a good business brain.
We are all hoping that she will win in what will be the first test in General Election year”.
