The Liberal Democrat Prospective Member of Parliament for New Forest East, Colonel Terry Scriven, has taken steps to ensure dental services in the area are improved.
Terry Scriven originally took up the problem of the lack of NHS dentists in the New Forest two years ago, challenging the then Chief Executive of the New Forest Primary Care Trust to improve the service.
However, things have only slightly improved with thousands of people still looking for an NHS dentist that will take them on the books.
Terry Scriven has now secured meetings with the acting Chief Executive of Hampshire Primary Care Trust and the Vice Chair of the General Dental Practise Committee (British Dental Association), aimed at getting more access for local people to NHS dentistry services.
Terry Scriven says “I have met many people in the New Forest who tell me that they simply can’t get local access to an NHS dentist.
This is not the service we were promised. I know that dentists and orthodontists are said to have a very poor relationship with Hampshire Primary Care Trust, having been subject to funding cuts over the years.
I’m hoping that some frank discussions with both parties will bring about change. Neglecting the dental health of local people now will create a much greater problem in years to come”.
