Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for New Forest East, Terry Scriven, is calling on motorists to slow down during this spell of icy weather.
There has been a spate of accidents in the New Forest area, with many drivers failing to take into account the dangerous condition of road surfaces.
Terry Scriven says “Some of the most dangerous roads are those that don’t look too bad because you are not able to see the black ice.
You really need to drive much more slowly.
The stopping distances can be up to 10 times the normal length.”
Motoring organisations like the AA are recommending that people consider very carefully if a journey is really necessary before venturing out.
They have been very busy in recent days dealing with breakdowns and vehicles stuck in the snow.
