Councillor Chris Harrison has been elected as Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on New Forest District Council.
The Liberal Democrats are the only opposition members on the council.
The six strong group will have their work cut out, challenging the newly elected 54 member conservative administration.
Councillor Harrison, who was elected by the residents of Dibden and Hythe East with an increased majority says "We may be a small group, but are all winners. Everyone of us has been elected because we are champions of the communities we serve, despite a very difficult national political scene."
Councillor Harrison adds "Once again, Labour, UKIP and the Green Party failed to get a single Councillor elected onto the authority.
The Liberal Democrats may be in coalition with the Conservatives in Westminster, but this is not the case locally. We shall challenge the administration whenever they slip up on providing good services and value for money".
